Winter is definitely making itself felt in Kinsale and as the crisp autumn evenings change to dark, winter nights, we’re lighting the fire and curling up on the sofa with a cosy blanket and a glass or two of mulled mead.

Mulled Wild Red MeadHere, we’ve taken a classic mulled red wine or gluhwein recipe and replaced the harshness of the bold, sometimes harsh tannins of red wine with the smoothness and welcome fruitiness of our Wild Red Mead. Gently warmed and gently spiced. Sip it outside watching the sun go down and the moon rise, with your fleecy blankets for warmth, of course!

Our serving suggestion? A piece of boozy mead and chocolate brownies or slice of fruit cake or a mince pie would go down a treat!

Midweek evening or weekend nights, there’s nothing like a mulled wine to keep you warm and toasty!
Traditionally this is heated by plunging a red hot poker into the pot but we prefer warming in a pan on the hob!

  • Piece of star anise
  • strip of orange peel
  • 2 tsp of honey to taste
