Historic Map of Ireland – Tales of Mead & Honey

10.00

We are so pleased with the outcome of our collaboration with talented local artist, Fiona Boniwell, to produce a beautifully illustrated historic map of Ireland – Tales of Mead & Honey. It traces the origins of mead and honey bees from ancient Ireland up to the present day.

The map follows the story of mead, honey bees in Ireland from the arrival of St Molaga in the 5th century with his honey bees to the last meadery in Ireland in the 1820’s in Dublin. We follow the legends of our ancient kings and chieftains, their drinking rituals using the ancient mether cups, the fascinating medieval Bee Laws to protect our honey bees and the origin’s of the honeymoon. We journey across Ireland’s four provinces to piece together the myths, legends and stories of our ancient drink.
