Historic Map of Ireland – Tales of Mead & Honey
€12.00
We are so pleased with the outcome of our collaboration with talented artist, Fiona Boniwell, to produce a beautifully illustrated historic map of Ireland – Tales of Mead & Honey. This poster traces the origins of mead and honey bees from ancient Ireland up to the present day.
The map follows the story of mead, honey bees in Ireland from the arrival of St Molaga in the 5th century with his honey bees to the last meadery in Ireland in the 1820’s in Dublin. There are legends of our ancient kings and chieftains, their drinking rituals using the ancient mether drinking vessels, the fascinating medieval Bee Judgements to protect our honey bees along with the origins of the word “honeymoon.” We journey across Ireland’s four provinces to piece together some of the many wonderful myths, legends and stories of our ancient drink.
