Kinsale Hazy Summer Mead – light & fruity berries
Kinsale Hazy Summer Mead (11% ABV) is a fabulous, fruity, off-dry berry mead with generous strawberry and raspberry aromas, a lovely burst of summer berries and a smooth, subtle honey finish.
Perfect served lightly chilled on its own or in a sharing jug with ice and frozen berries. Like a glass of summer in any weather. This deliciously light and fruity melomel mead is a refreshing alternative to a light red or rosé wine. It is fermented from pure honey muddled with a tumble of ripe summer berries with almost no sweetness. Popular with cocktail mixers and beer and gin drinkers.
It pairs beautifully with spicy chicken wings, light curries or salads with raspberry vinaigrette or try with honey glazed ham. For dessert we love it with berry cheesecake or pavlova or poured over vanilla ice cream.
Like Kinsale Mead Co’s other meads, Hazy Summer Mead is made at Ireland’s first meadery in 200 years in the historic and food-loving town of Kinsale on the Wild Atlantic Way in West Cork.
The awards came in fast for this intriguing re-imagining of an ancient drink and it has won Gold at Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards and Gold at the International Mazer Cup.

This smells like a red wine called Malvasia. If I didn’t know and had to guess from the smell. After a while the cherries pop, It becomes richer. Nice bitter finish. I would have this with polpo a la galiciana, the Spanish octopus dish, slightly spicy with chorizo and a little chili and lots of olive oil (Giovanni, Italy)

Store the bottles similar to wine, upright in a cool place away from direct sunlight and they should keep for at least two years.
Once opened, store the bottles upright in the fridge. If you have one of those vacuum pump wine bottle closures that pump out the oxygen, all the better. After that the flavour starts to change a little as the air gets to it. Good to drink still or use in cocktails or cooking.
Hazy Summer Mead is fine for 2 weeks as there are more natural preservatives from the fruit skins. Then they become more port-like.
