Kinsale Hazy Summer Mead – light & fruity berries

23.95

Kinsale Hazy Summer Mead (11% ABV) is a fabulous, fruity, off-dry berry mead with generous strawberry and raspberry aromas, a lovely burst of summer berries and a smooth, subtle honey finish.

As seen on TV chef, John Torode’s Ireland on the Food Network. Perfect served lightly chilled on its own or in a sharing jug with ice and frozen berries. Like a glass of summer in any weather. This deliciously light and fruity melomel mead is a refreshing alternative to a light red or rosé wine. It is fermented from pure honey muddled with a tumble of ripe summer berries with almost no sweetness. Popular choice or gift for cocktail whizzes and craft beer and gin drinkers.

It pairs beautifully with spicy chicken wings, light curries or salads with raspberry vinaigrette or try with honey glazed ham or traditional roast turkey. For dessert we love it with berry cheesecake or pavlova or poured over vanilla ice cream.

Like Kinsale Mead Co’s other meads, Hazy Summer Mead is made at Ireland’s first meadery in 200 years in the historic and food-loving town of Kinsale on the Wild Atlantic Way in West Cork.

The awards came in fast for this intriguing re-imagining of an ancient drink and it has won Gold at Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards at the International Mazer Cup, Silver at the European Mead Madness Cup and a 1 star (Simply delicious) Great Taste Award.

Naturally Gluten Free. Low in sulfites. 70cl bottle.

Customer Reviews

Generous fruit character and a zingy off-dry finish, enjoy like a light wine with charcuterie or salted cheese. – Aoife Carrigy – Irish Independent

Dry and red berry hued with a vanilla nose. The aroma was of rich ripe strawberries and honey, which was extremely enticing – Great Taste Award 1 star (Simply Delicious)

My favourite one… So delicate, light and very fruity, thank you Kinsale Mead Co. – Risha V.

It’s beautiful! Perfect on its own or in lots of different cocktails! Also great with prosecco for a summery party drink – Sinéad S.

My new favourite cocktail ingredient- absolutely gorgeous! – Beth W.

Just cracked bottle of Hazy Summer and it’s delish! – Daithí O.

This smells like a red wine called Malvasia if I didn’t know and had to guess. After a while the cherries pop, It becomes richer. Nice refreshing finish. I would have this with polpo a la galiciana, the Spanish octopus dish, slightly spicy with chorizo and a little chili and lots of olive oil – Giovanni, Italy

Storage

Store the bottles similar to wine, upright in a cool place away from direct sunlight and they should keep for at least two years.

Once opened, store the bottles upright in the fridge. If you have one of those vacuum pump wine bottle closures that pump out the oxygen, all the better. After that the flavour starts to change a little as the air gets to it. Good to drink still or use in cocktails or cooking.

Hazy Summer Mead is fine for 2 weeks as there are more natural preservatives from the fruit skins. Then they become more port-like.

Mead Food Pairing

It pairs beautifully with spicy chicken wings, a mild Thai red curry or spicy bean stew. Try a light summer salad with raspberry vinaigrette or honey glazed ham and traditional roast Turkey. For dessert we love it with berry pavlova or poured over vanilla ice cream. Also lovely with blue cheese.
