Kinsale Wild Red Mead (12% ABV) is a gorgeous melomel fruit mead fermented off-dry with Wexford blackcurrants beautifully balanced with the dark cherries, tempered over the hint of honey and matured to a very smooth finish. Delicious served at room temperature on its own or with food and pairs fantastically with chocolates from our local artisan chocolatier, Koko of Kinsale. Choose either a box of four or twelve chocolates.
As lovely with a traditional roast as it is with rich, tomato-y Italian dishes. Irresistible with cheeseboards and of course, with chocolate! This mead is a perfect gift for wine drinkers who prefer a smoother style. Mead and Chocolates – Mother’s Day or any other day, we think it’s a match mead in heaven!
If you want to substitute the bottle of Wild Red Mead with either crisp Atlantic Dry Mead or fruity Hazy Summer Mead, just add that in the shipping note on ordering and we’ll sort it out.
Note: We can only ship the chocolates to Irish addresses including Northern Ireland. We will ship out the week before Mother’s Day which is on Sunday 19th March but you can pre-order now.
From Kinsale with Love. All our meads are made in small batches at Ireland’s first meadery in 200 years; Koko’s finest chocolates are hand made by Frank, both in the historic and food-loving town of Kinsale on the Wild Atlantic Way in West Cork. We do sincerely appreciate your support for our small, family run businesses.
Naturally Gluten Free. Low in sulfites. 70cl bottle.

Wild Red Mead
I ordered the Wild Red Mead as a gift for my partner who had to taste it straight away, and we both love it (Kate F.)
Not only a beautiful beverage but also top notch customer service. Big thanks to Kinsale Mead Co for providing me with this little bottle of joy! (Malwina T.)
More on the honey wine than on the mead side with sweet cherries, currants on the nose. Palate of chokeberry/blueberries. With delicate honey finish (Banurx)
This stuff is so delish. We went to the meadery and did a tour when we moved to Kinsale two Christmas’ ago and had it mulled. Omg (Sandy S.)
This fantastic Wild Red Mead is made using cherries and Wexford blackcurrants perfectly to create a truly special fruity and zesty mead, absolutely perfect for any mixologist collection (Simon King, Twelve Hotel)
Nice acidity on this one, cleans the palate and wants you to drink more (Giovanni, Italy)
My absolute favourite is the Wild Red. So delicious! (Tara C.)
Delivery
Flat Rate Delivery charge to anywhere in Ireland is €7.95, and to the UK including Northern Ireland is £7. FREE Shipping for orders over €80/£75 or 4 bottles. We have a UPS Express Delivery which usually is delivered the next working day but may all be slower in peak periods.
Note: We can’t ship out limited edition Meads to the UK except for Northern Ireland. Sorry about that. Full Details page here also lists some suppliers who can ship abroad including to the USA.
Storage
Store the bottles similar to wine, upright in a cool place away from direct sunlight and they should keep for at least two years.
Once opened, store the bottles upright in the fridge. If you have one of those vacuum pump wine bottle closures that pump out the oxygen, all the better. After that the flavour starts to change a little as the air gets to it. Good to drink still or use in cocktails or cooking.
Wild Red Mead is fine for 2 weeks as there are more natural preservatives from the skins. Then they become more port-like.
Food Pairing
Great with Italian dishes with a rich tomato sauce or with medieval feast dishes such as roast duck or venison as well as sticky barbecue ribs, sausages and black pudding. Lovely with strong cheeses or good quality chocolate. We love it with Chocolate brownies too.
