Kinsale Mead and Koko’s Chocolates – a Match Mead in Heaven

We’re celebrating February – the Month of Love! Finding the right words to say how you feel can be hard enough so we’ve made it easy to find the right gift with an exclusive gift pack for the honey in your life.

Kinsale Wild Red Mead (12% ABV) is a gorgeous melomel mead fermented off-dry with Wexford blackcurrants beautifully balanced with the dark cherries, tempered over the hint of honey and matured to a very smooth finish. Delicious served at room temperature on its own or with food and pairs fantastically with the divine chocolates from our local artisan chocolatier, Koko of Kinsale. Choose either a box of four or nine chocolates.

Note: All images representative, actual chocolate selection may vary depending on availability but they are all awesome!

If you want to substitute the bottle of Wild Red Mead with either Atlantic Dry Mead or Hazy Summer Mead, just put a note in the shipping note on ordering and we’ll sort that out.

From Kinsale with Love. All our meads are made in small batches at Ireland’s first meadery in 200 years; Koko’s finest chocolates are hand made by Frank. We do sincerely appreciate your support for our small, family run businesses.

Naturally Gluten Free. Low in sulfites. 70cl bottle.

Wild Red Reviews

I ordered the Wild Red Mead as a gift for my partner who had to taste it straight away, and we both love it (Kate F.)

Not only a beautiful beverage but also top notch customer service. Big thanks to Kinsale Mead Co for providing me with this little bottle of joy! (Malwina T.)

More on the honey wine than on the mead side with sweet cherries, currants on the nose. Palate of chokeberry/blueberries with a delicate honey finish (Banurx)

This stuff is so delish. We went to the meadery and did a tour when we moved to Kinsale two Christmas’s ago and had it mulled. Omg. (Sandy S.)

This fantastic Wild Red Mead is made using cherries and Wexford blackcurrants perfectly to create a truly special fruity and zesty mead, absolutely perfect for any mixologist collection (Simon King, Twelve Hotel)

Nice acidity on this one, cleans the palate and wants you to drink more (Giovanni, Italy)

It’s absolutely phenomenal stuff; my girlfriend bought me a bottle of it while she was in Kinsale couple of weeks ago and I’ve just noticed you provide it to my local off-licence 👌🏻 It won’t be my last bottle haha (Paul, Ireland)

Store the bottles similar to wine, upright in a cool place away from direct sunlight and they should keep for at least two years.

Once opened, store the bottles upright in the fridge. If you have one of those vacuum pump wine bottle closures that pump out the oxygen, all the better. After that the flavour starts to change a little as the air gets to it. Good to drink still or use in cocktails or cooking.

Wild Red Mead is fine for 2 weeks as there are more natural preservatives from the fruit skins. Then they become more port-like.

Mead Food Pairing

Mead and Chocolates – we think it’s a match mead in heaven! Get ready to both weaken the knees and quicken the heart of your beloved. If you are planning dinner in, serve with roast duck or rich, tomato-y Italian dishes. Lovely with cheeseboards as well as chocolates! This mead wins adoration with wine drinkers who prefer a smoother style. Warm up your beloved with our winter mulled mead recipe, sweetened with honey and gently spiced.

Great with Italian dishes with a rich tomato sauce or with medieval feast dishes such as roast duck or venison as well as sticky barbecue ribs, sausages and black pudding. Lovely with strong cheeses.
